“Is it really over between you and her?”
“Yes. We said goodbye last night.”
“I–I don’t want to know if that was all you did–say goodbye. I don’t want to know what you said to her or how you felt saying goodbye to her. I don’t want to know anything. I want to forget that you were with her before we met and that you loved her.”
“The past is behind us. We have an exciting future ahead of us. Let’s focus on that.”
“Answer me one question, if you and I hadn’t met, would you still be with her?”
“I don’t know.”
“That’s an honest answer.”
“It’s the only answer. I honestly don’t know if she and I would still be in a relationship if you and I hadn’t met.”
“Are you still in love with her?”
“No. I’m in love with you.”
“Are you sure you aren’t going to miss those nights in Starview Heights?”
“No. They are part of my past which is now behind me.”
She looked up at him then. “Thanks for erasing clouds of doubt from my mind.”
“My heart is and will forever be yours.”
Tears sprang to her eyes and she wrapped her arms around him just as he lowered his head to kiss her.
