Parting

She’s on my lap. We are facing each other.

“So, this is goodbye.”

I nod. Her eyes fill with tears. She puts her arms around my neck.

I hug her tightly. My heart’s breaking.

We tried so hard to make our relationship work but we just couldn’t seem to go back to the way things used to be. In the past love used to be everything but now, it just isn’t enough.

Our parting won’t be sweet sorrow, just sorrow because we will never see each other again. And when we part all that will remain are memories of what we once had and regrets.
