Laird was in the nursery setting up the washing machine for the baby when the doorbell rang. He went to answer the door, grimacing when he saw Antonia standing there. “What are you doing here?” he demanded.
“I-I wanted to see you, Laird.”
“Why?”
“Are you alone?”
“Yes.” Martina and the baby were spending the day with her parents.
“May I come in?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I don’t want you in this flat.”
“Laird, please.”
“Either tell me why you’re here or leave.”
“How long will you punish me for loving you?”
“Go away, Antonia.”
“Laird–”
The door slammed shut.

Dear Adele,
It sounds to me like Laird made the right choice.

Dear Rochelle,
There’s a bit of family history here and that’s why Laird doesn’t want to have anything to do with his adopted sister if he could help it.

Adele
