Deandre was playing basketball with a couple of friends. They didn’t notice her. Kalisa watched as he made an impressive slam dunk. How she ached for him.
It was torture attending the university every day and seeing him. It was over between them because he had a girlfriend. If she had known that, she wouldn’t have left Kigali to come to Jacksonville to be with him. Tears pricked her eyes and she turned away.
Deandre watched her leave.
