With six miles to go, the unthinkable happened. Yalemzerf Yehualaw of Ethiopia tripped on a speed bump at least 25 meters back from the leading pack and fell to the ground, banging her head. Despite this setback, Yalemzerf got up, rejoined the pack and finished the race in the third fastest time at the event. She is the youngest woman to win the London Marathon. “I had confidence I could run well. I am so happy to win on my first time in London. People were shouting a lot and it inspired me.”
