“Command those who are rich in this world that they not be conceited, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly gives us all things to enjoy. Command that they do good, that they be rich in good works, generous, willing to share, and laying up in store for themselves a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of eternal life.”
1 TIMOTHY 6:17-19
Don’t trust in riches but trust in God. Be rich in good works. Be ready to give and willing to share. This is how the rich man in the parable Jesus told in Luke 12:13-21 should have lived his life. He should have been generous toward God and others instead of hoarding all his wealth to himself.
The riches God has in store for us are eternal, not temporary as the ones here. When we die, we will leave all the things behind. The rich young ruler preferred to hold onto his riches than to sold them and follow Jesus (Luke 18:18-23). He chose wealth over salvation. Do not give up eternal life for what is temporary.
