“What’s this?” Nick asked, chuckling.
“It’s the neighborhood makeshift lunch table.”
“Very innovative. Your idea?”
“Yes.”
“Thought so.”
“Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“Oh yes…” He kissed her.
“You sure know make a girl’s head spin.”
“I’ve some news that will make your head spin too.”
“What news?”
“I’m going on my first mission trip.”
“Where?”
“Ghana. I leave at the end of the month.”
“Why Ghana?”
“What’s wrong with Ghana?”
“The natives are dirty savages, riddled with diseases.”
“Is that what you think?”
“Yes.”
“And to think that I was going to ask you to marry me.”
“Nick–“
“Goodbye, Nancy.”

My goodness, you captured a dramatic change from a friendly relationship to definitive decisive goodbye. Perhaps the sense of prejudice shown by Nancy was her way of saying how much she didn’t want him to leave. Just saying.

She could have told him in a better way that she didn’t want him to go but it’s obvious that she has her prejudices and they cost her a marriage proposal.

Well, this story hits quite hard. Nancy’s definitely prejudiced but perhaps she’s ignorant. Nice seems like a very decisive guy. You could write a sequel.

Yes, she is. I guess Nick didn’t appreciate her calling the African people “dirty savages” and doesn’t think that she would make a suitable wife for a missionary after all. He’s probably devastated about the whole thing though. You’re right, Nitin. This definitely needs a sequel.

That went well. I wish them both luck.

Dear Adele,
It sounds like he was putting her to the test. Best to know ahead of time. However, his comment seems a little cruel.

Dear Rochelle,
He wasn’t testing her but sharing his news with her which he thought she would find exciting, that’s why he made the comment about making her head spin. I guess his comment was made in anger and disgust because of what she said about the Ghanaian people. You’re right. It was to know ahead of time.
Shalom,
Adele

Agree with others, it’s best he found out now. However, breaking it off prevents him from educating her. Hope they reconcile…

Good point, Lisa. Perhaps, he should have told her that her remark was offensive and then work on educating her. I’m not sure if they will reconcile but you never know.

Better to find out now that they are sharply divided on this important concept.

Prejudice is ugly, all the way around. Good for him!

Yes, it is, Alicia. If it had been the other way around, she probably would have dumped him too.

People should be careful with words.. one sentence can end the relationship. Well done

You’re so right, Vartika. One wrong word or words can end or destroy a relationship. Thanks 🙂
