“So, she just agreed to divorce you?” Melania asked.
“Yes,” Matt replied. They were in her living-room.
“Just like that?”
“Yes.”
“Wow. I can’t believe it.”
“I still can’t believe it myself.”
“I wonder what made her change her mind?”
“I’ve been wondering the same thing too. When I asked her, she almost bit my head off. Her exact words were, ‘Does it matter? Just be thankful that I am.’”
“She’s right about that. I’m thankful that she has finally come to her senses.”
“I’m thankful too. I will be a free man very soon.”
“Have you told Cam?”
“Yes. I told him that Daddy and Mommy aren’t going to be married to each other anymore. I told him that nothing will change. He will continue to live with her and see me on the weekends and holidays.”
“And how did he take that?”
“He was relieved to hear that.”
Melania looked over to where Cam was sitting on the floor, cross-legged, watching his favorite cartoons. “Do you think she would ever agree to have him live with you?” she asked Matt.
“I don’t know. Mom was advising me to get full custody.”
“Maybe you should take her advice. I think Cam would be better off living with you.”
“My parents, Joel and Kira and others think so too. I’ll look into it.”
“Good. So, how would you like to spend today?” It was Family Day. She was spending it with Cam and him while Joel and Kira were spending it with Matt’s parents.
“I was thinking that we could check out the annual Toronto Black Film Festival.”
“That’s a great idea.”
“And then, afterwards, we can go tobogganing.”
“Tobogganing. I haven’t done that since I was a kid. I’d love to and I’m sure Cam would too.”
“And then, we can check out the Hot Chocolate Fest.”
“Hot Chocolate Fest?”
“Yes. It’s a 10-day festival that celebrates chocolate, love and everything sweet. There’s live music. You and I can go there after we drop Cam home.”
“Sounds like we’re going to have a fun Family Day.”
He smiled. “That’s the plan. Now, if I can just manage to drag Cam away from his cartoons…”
