When my aunt went to the washroom, I seized the opportunity to call Maxime. My heart pounded fast in excitement and I smiled as I imagined how surprised he would be when I tell him that I’m in London. I arrived yesterday.
Eagerly, I punched in his phone number and waited anxiously for him to answer.
“Hello?” a woman answered.
Surprised, it took me a few minutes to recover. “Hello. May I speak to Maxime?”
“Who’s this?”
“Sarifina.”
“Maxime isn’t available,” she replied briskly and hung up.
“Who was that?” Maxime asked, entering the room.
“A wrong number,” Rosaline replied.

I wonder what’s going on here, and why she would lie?

Let’s just say that Rosaline has designs on Maxime and will deter any female whom she perceives to be a rival.

Dear Adele,
So much for the element of surprise. Ouch.

Dear Rochelle,
Yes, what a damper, however, things will work out in the end.

Out of contact and people move on. I think trying to surprise an old friend may sound exciting, but as you show in your story disappointment looms.

These two are more than friends and have been in regular contact. If he knew that she was in London, he would drop everything to go to her. The disappointment is as a result of a scheming woman who has designs on him.

Oh, the drama of romance and intrigue. Well done.

Yes, well that fib won’t stay secret for very long, will it? Just as long as Serifina takes to recover from her surprise and rings back, I suspect.
Maxime, you’ve got some explaining to do…
Nice fluent story, Adele

Yes, the fib will be discovered soon enough. There’s nothing going on between Maxime and the other woman, although she would like there to be. Don’t worry, Penny, Sarifina and Maxime will be in touch soon enough. Thanks 🙂

Something tells me that Maxime might be spinning a few plates too many here. I do like a story where a secret’s kept from a fairly close relative, hence I see lots of potential for a longer tale.

No, Maxime isn’t two-timing Sarifina. He’s in love with her. This other woman has been trying to snag him for years but to no avail. You’re right, Jilly. This is a sequel to a longer much longer story. Maxime and Sarifina met in New York and had a world wind romance which lasted until his return to England but they have been in regular contact.

I can’t imagine her giving up that easily! Where there’s a will…!

Twists and turns. Can’t decide if Rosaline is the bad guy, or Maxime, or both!

Maxime isn’t the bad guy. He’s deeply in love with Sarifina. Rosaline is the villainess. She wants Maxime for herself although her efforts to have him have been and will continue to be unsuccessful.

Oh no! I hope Sarafina doesn’t just leave it there.

Don’t worry, she won’t. She’s going to call him again.
