Esmeralda watched jealously as Reginald and Frances were about to take a turn in the garden. It wasn’t fair. She met him first, yet, it was her feeble-minded cousin to whom he’d formed the attachment.
Admittedly, Frances was beautiful and agreeable but surely those qualities weren’t enough to recommend her to a judicious man like Reginald. Bristling, she recalled Frances’ remark that it was very unlucky to walk widdershins around a church. How positively stupid.
