I remember how I felt when I gazed down into the little face of my newborn son over 13 years ago. No words can accurately describe the love which stirred inside me. I think of how Mary and wonder how she felt when she looked upon the face of Jesus. Did she see the face of baby or the face of a Savior?
What other feelings beside love stirred inside Mary as she looked upon that sweet little face? Did joy fill her heart because she had brought forth her Son, Jesus who was to be great and to be called the Son of the Highest? He was to be given by God “the throne His father David and reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end” (Luke 1:31-33).
I can well imagine the tears of joy which spilled down her cheeks as she saw God’s salvation for her and the rest of the world wrapped in swaddling cloths. In the face of Jesus, she saw the Father’s love for a world which needed to be saved. Did she praise God in her heart? Did she magnify Him again as she did before when she visited her cousin, Elizabeth? Love for God must have filled her heart as she gazed at the face of Jesus whose birth was long awaited and anticipated by some and announced by the angels.
Like Mary, my soul magnifies God brought peace and goodwill to men on earth through the miraculous birth of our Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). Praise God for His love for mankind and for His mercy which “is on those who fear Him from generation to generation” (Luke 1:50).
Thank You, Heavenly Father for loving us so much that You sent a Savior into the world so that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Thank You, Lord Jesus for leaving the glory of Heaven to come here on earth to live in a world which was in spiritual darkness. Thank You for being our Light, the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world (John 1:9). Thank You, Holy Spirit for the Good News which the angels proclaimed not only to the shepherds but to us. We look forward to the glorious day when we too shall see the face of Jesus. Until then, help us to do as the shepherds did, and that is to make known the things concerning our Lord and Savior. In His precious name, we pray. Amen.
I wish you all a blessed Christmas. May the Love of our heavenly Father, the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the comfort of the Holy Spirit fill your hearts.
