Bless the Lord, o my soul and all that is within, bless His holy name for He has done great things. God is worthy to be praised. All of creation praises Him. He is good and deserving of our praises. He is above all gods. The other gods were made by men but God made men. These gods have mouths but they cannot speak, they have ears but cannot hear and eyes but cannot see. These gods cannot save those who trust in them.
Today, these gods can be anything which replace God in our lives and hearts. It can be relationships, jobs, possessions, addictions, etc. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can forsake these gods and turn to the one true God who deserves our love and worship.
Yes, God has done many great things but for me the greatest thing He has done is to have the virgin Mary bring forth a Son whose name shall be called, “Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
Heavenly Father, we thank You for all the wonderful things you have done and continue to do in our lives and in the lives of others. We thank You for the justice and compassion You show toward us. We thank You for being with us in our trials, upholding us with Your righteous right hand. Most of all, we thank You for your lovingkindness toward us in that You gave us the gift of salvation which comes only through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Please help us this day to forsake all the things which we have allowed to take Your rightful place and return to loving You with all our hearts, with all our souls and with all our strength. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
