Savannah’s Birthday

“I was thinking that for Savannah’s birthday, we can have a costume party,” Georgia said to her husband, Theodore.

“That’s a great idea, Honey. There’s this place called, Party Fanatics. It provides family-friendly entertainment and event planning services for a variety of events. We can go and check it out tomorrow if you like. They are open until 9pm. They have themed costume party options. For example, there’s Toy Story, Super Heroes, Star Wars or Disney.”

“Sure. We can go after we’ve had dinner. When we go, Savannah can tell us which theme she wants.”

“All right. We’ll go tomorrow.”

“I’ll go and tell Savannah. She’ll be so thrilled.” He got up from the sofa and went upstairs to his daughter’s room.

She was lying on the bed. He could tell that something was troubling her. He joined her on the bed. “What’s the matter, Honey?” he asked.

“My friend, Lucy is sick. She has a heart problem.”

“Really? Was she born with it?”

“I don’t know.”

“So, what’s happened?”

“Today, when we were outside in the yard playing, she was having trouble breathing so I told Mrs. Robbins and she took her inside to have the nurse look at her. Then, we heard the ambulance and Mrs. Robbins told us that Lucy was taken to the hospital. We prayed for her.”

“I’m sorry to hear about Lucy but I’m sure she’s going to be all right.”

“I hope so. She’s my best friend. I don’t want her to die.”

“Don’t worry, Honey. Lucy isn’t going to die.”

“I will pray every night until she’s better.”

“That’s a great idea.”

“I will also pray that God will fix her heart.”

“Mommy and I will pray too.”

“Thanks, Daddy.”

“You’re welcome. Lucy, I came upstairs to tell you that Mommy and I talking about your birthday. We thought it would be a neat idea to have a costume party. What do you think?”

She didn’t seem keen on the idea. “I don’t want a party for my birthday,” she said.

Her Dad was shocked to hear that. “How come?” he asked.

“I don’t want Lucy to be sad because she can’t run around and play with the other kids and me.”

“You know, Honey, Lucy’s very blessed to have a friend like you. How would you like to celebrate your birthday?”

“Just with you, Mommy and Dakota.”

“Okay. We can go to the Hidden Cover Family Fun Park in Bourbonnais or the Six Flags Great America amusement park in Gurnee. You decide where you want to go and we’ll go.”

“Okay, Daddy.”

“It’s time to get ready for bed. I’ll be back to read you a bedtime story.”

“It’s Mommy’s turn.”

“All right. She’ll be up shortly. Goodnight, Honey.”

“Goodnight, Daddy.” They hugged and then, he got up and left.

They ended up spending Savannah’s birthday at Cherry Valley and the Magic Waters water park. The next day which was a Sunday, Savannah took a big slice of her birthday cake for Lucy and they spent the afternoon together.
