He was en route to the farm when his cell rang. It was Veronica. He thought of ignoring it but answered anyway. “Yes?”
“I’m sorry for what I said about farmers.”
“It’s how you really feel.”
“I thought you were a businessman who lived in Minneapolis. I had no idea you lived on farm.”
“Well, I do. Farming is my life and any woman who wants to date me has to accept that.”
“So, there’s no chance of us…?”
“No. It won’t work out.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I’m not. I hope you find yourself a nice city boy.”

You pack a lot into this conversation, Adele, so much so that I’m not REALLY sure it’s over between them. Veronica did call & apologize after all! 🙂

Thanks, Dora 🙂 You’re right, she did call and apologize. Maybe he will reconsider and give her a second chance. We’ll see.

Dear Adele,
Perhaps it’s not over for them but I’d say Veronica needs to adjust her thinking and decide her priorities. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Dear Rochelle,
I think you’re right. Perhaps it isn’t over for them but Veronica needs to change her mindset if she wants to be with him which she does. Thanks 🙂
Shalom,
Adele

He gave up rather too quickly, I thought – she’s better off not pursuing him.

I guess her opinion and remarks about farmers really got to him. Perhaps as Rochelle and Dora said, it’s not over for them. There’s hope for her yet.

Nice ending to, I’m assuming, a short relationship.

Best that be established from the get. Too many times one has convinced the other to stay when it was not realistic…

That’s true. In this case, I don’t think it’s necessarily over for them. We’ll see.

As long as they are honest about everything…

Some folks aren’t meant to be. It’s best if they realize that at the beginning rather than later. Good story!

That’s true, Sascha. Being the romantic I am, though, I decided to have her go to the farm and apologize in person, try to make amends and he, relents and gives her another chance. Thanks 🙂 Am delighted that you liked the story.

Personally, I think he’s right to be cautious. That remark of hers might be from ignorance that could be corrected, but it was unthinking and those are often deeply embedded. I’m thinking she would probably be better off with “a nice city boy”. Well, you certainly stirred us up with this wonderful bit of dialogue 😀

Yes, he has that right, Eugenia. Her remarks were made out of ignorance which could be corrected. This city girl is besotted with the farmer so, I decided to give her another chance 🙂
