“Mom, what’s a paradox?”
“It’s a self-contradictory statement. An example is all men are treated equal.”
“It’s all men are created equal and how’s that a paradox?”
“The Declaration of Independence states, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are treated equal.’ That’s contradictory.”
“Um, it’s all men are created equal.”
“Well, that’s not true, is it? Not everyone is treated equal. Take minorities and women, for example.”

Dear Adele,
It seems some are more equal than others. A paradox indeed.

Dear Rochelle,
Yes, not everyone is treated equally. Mom is right about that even though she has misquoted the Declaration of Independence statement which the daughter tried to correct her about 🙂

I like how she continues her explanation keeping her word “treated” to drive home her poing.

You’re right, Iain. It’s really unfortunate.
