Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost – Luke 15:5
When watching the The Chronological Gospel Movie about JESUS, I was struck by the story of the shepherd who went searching for his lost sheep. He was an older man, probably in his fifties or sixties and fit. He went a long way to find his sheep. At one point, he was sitting under the shelter of a rock until the morning came. It seemed as if he searched all night for that sheep. The distance he covered showed how far the animal had strayed and the distance and lengths this shepherd was willing to go to recover it.
This is how valuable we are to God. When we go astray, He will come looking for us and it doesn’t matter how far we have wandered or how long it takes to find us. God will do whatever it takes. And when He finds us, He and all who are in heaven, rejoice. He takes us up in His arms and brings us back into the fold.
The lost sheep knew it was lost but couldn’t find its way back. Those of us who are lost and can’t find our way back, don’t lose heart. God will seek us until He finds us. He loves us and wants us to be with Him. We are of great value to Him as the sheep was to the shepherd.
Rejoice that you have a Good Shepherd who and go after that which is lost, until he finds it.
