“Mom, why do you have garlic hanging outside of our house?”

“It keeps away mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, black flies and most small flying insects.”

Really?  How does it do that?”

“Garlic contains a natural sulfur compound which acts as a repellent.  It’s a great non-toxic way to keep nibbling pests out of my garden.”

“I read that people hang garlic outside of their windows to ward off evil.”

“That’s just superstition.”

“Mom, it’s been a while since Mrs. Bradshaw and Mrs. Allen have visited you.  How come?”

“Another wonderful thing about garlic is that it keeps away pesty neighbors.”
