He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name – Psalm 147:4.
He gazed up at the stars as they twinkled brightly in the dark sky. There were so many of them. Some looked tiny, others small and others big. Some were closer than others. He tried counting them but it was too hard. He remembered something his mother told him once. She said, “God counts the stars and He calls every one of them by their names.”
He could spend hours just looking the stars but he knew he would get into trouble with Mom and Dad and his teachers if he couldn’t keep awake when he was at school. He took one last look at the sky and then he went over to his bed. Before he climbed in, he knelt down and prayed.
“Dear God, thank you for my parents, my friends, my teachers, our dog, Sparky and our cat, Spot. Thank you for everything you have made. I can see the stars from my bedroom window. They look like flashlights. Mom said you named all of them. I’m sure they all have cool names. Are they male and female stars? Why are some bigger than others? I guess like everything else, they come in different sizes. I tried counting them but there are too many but You can count them. I guess that’s because You are God and You can do anything. The next time you create a star, could you name it after me? That would be really cool. Thanks, God. Goodnight. Oh, I guess I should thank you for my kid sister, Susie too. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.”
He got up, climbed into bed and pulled the covers over him. Tomorrow night, he would look at the stars again.
