Light in Darkness

The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple – Psalm 119:130

I don’t like darkness. It’s heavy, oppressive and downright scary. It makes you feel helpless, vulnerable and causes you to stumble because you can’t see where you’re going or what’s in front of you. What gets rid of the darkness? Light. You turn on the light or light a candle or carry a lamp or even use the light from your cell phone and you’re able to see what’s around you. You can see if there is any danger and avoid it. You feel safe with the light and more confident. You can move about with ease now and not have to worry about tripping or falling. A little light can make a big difference. And it’s great to see how it overcomes the darkness.

Everyone is aware of physical darkness but not many people know that they are in spiritual darkness. They go about their lives not knowing that they are heading for danger. They are blinded to Satan and his deceptions. How could their eyes be opened? Only through the Word of God can they see through the darkness that has enshrouded them from God’s light for so long.

God’s Word is that light which enters into our minds and gives understanding to those who hear it and open their eyes to their true condition. God’s Word is the light which will chase away their spiritual darkness. Their minds and eyes and understanding will be open to the things of God which will reveal the dangers and deception of the things of the world.

God’s Word, like a light, will guide your footsteps, leading you away from traps and danger. It will make your footing sure and prevent you from stumbling. If you continue to keep God’s Word burning brightly in your life, there is no fear that you will fall back into spiritual darkness. Where there is light, there’s no fear of darkness. Darkness flees from light. Let the Word of God be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105)

Just as light reveals things and exposes things that you would otherwise not see when you were in darkness, God’s Word is also likened to fire. Fire not only gives light but it consumes. So, in a spiritual sense, God’s Word not only exposes error but consumes it. God will not allow His Truth be extinguished. He declares, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11).

It’s God’s will that you read His Word, meditate on it daily and obey what is written in it. Doing this will transform your life. And you can transform the lives of others too by sharing God’s Word with them. You can bring them out of spiritual darkness and into His marvelous light.
