He stood there, puzzled. The blue decorative plate with the dolphin was hanging in the doorway. This meant that her husband was at home but why was the door open? It didn’t make any sense. He texted her.
Five minutes later, she replied, “All clear. Forgot to remove the sign. Come inside.”
Relieved, he put the lawn-mower away in the shed. He entered the house and after closing the door, he headed for the bedroom where he knew she’d be waiting.
She stood beside the bed but…she looked scared.
Her husband stepped out from behind the door, revolver in hand.

Ooops! Obviously the terms of that relationship have changed.

I revised the story. Her husband found out about the affair. She wasn’t able to warn her lover. The text wasn’t from her but from her husband to lure him over there and then…

I did wonder who sent the text.

He would have been better off not going inside the house or getting involved with a married woman in the first place. These types of situations never end well.

Ah! I suspect his gardening duties will be suspended for a while, if not indefinitely.

You’re right, Sandra. Unfortunately for him, his duties could be suspended indefinitely.

Dear Rochelle,
This could turn out to be a permanent end of the affair. Hopefully, not, though. Thank you 🙂

He was a snake in the grass (forgive the pun 🙂 ) Unexpected ending 🙂 Or maybe not.

Such a treacherous woman. If this ends badly, who is going to cut the grass and clear the weeds from the garden?

Actually, it was her husband who texted the guy. He was the one who lured him over there and she was powerless to warn him.

Good story, well told. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. At least it’s not a shot gun. Run!

Thanks, Bill. Yes, he should get out of there fast, if he can.

I knew it. Held my breath the whole time hoping for a happier ending, but no such luck. I wonder if he’ll kill them both.

Such situations rarely end well. Hopefully, he will let them both off with a warning.

Hope he changes his mind and doesn’t use the gun.
He doesn’t need to go to jail for her. Great story …
