A Tragic Loss

“How’s Stephanie doing?” Gail asked.

“Not well at all,” Allison replied.

“That isn’t surprising,” Wendy interjected.  “She just lost her 11 year old son.”

“Poor woman.  I’m a mother and can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a child,” Allison said, getting misty eyed.

“I visited her yesterday and she was still in a state of shock,” Wendy told them.  “I just sat there holding her hand.  I will do whatever I can to help her through this.”

“Lance said that Alan’s having a tough time too,” Allison said.

“Let’s pitch in and help them,” Gail suggested.

The others agreed.

100 Words

Tragically, this story is loosely based on my own.  Yesterday, my husband and I lost our 11 year old son.  We are still in shock.  I will not be blogging for an indefinite period of time.

The loss of a child is the most painful and heart-wrenching thing that could happen to a family.  My thoughts and prayers are for those who have gone through and are going through this unimaginable tragedy.

    1. Dear Rochelle,

I had to write the post to let you know what happened and why you won’t see me posting for a while. You’re welcome. Thanks for your condolences. This is something no parent should ever go through.

      Shalom,

  2. Dearest Adele,

I know only too well what it feels like to lose a child. My heart is with you and your family at this most trying time. I know there are no words of comfort but I know each one uttered, no matter how awkwardly, means something.

    My deepest sympathies to you,

    Dale

  3. Needed a tissue after this one. Our neighbors son was killed in a freak accident and after it happened, I will never think of the 4th of July that happiness I had as a child. The family never gets over it. Sad story written well!

    1. I’m sorry to hear about your neighbor’s son. I’m sure his family wouldn’t be able to think of the 4th of July the same way too. And you’re right. Losing a child is something you will never get over no matter how much time passes. Thanks, Nan. It’s a story I wish I never had to write.

    1. Thanks for your condolences, Shweta. It’s a loss that we are still trying to process. Even now, I still can’t believe that he’s gone. This has been a very tough year for our family. We’ve lost my parents and my son within months of each other. Yet, through it all, God has been with us. And we take comfort in knowing that one day we will be with our loved ones again.

That is something I hate to like… Hugs and prayers going up for you and your family. It is so very hard to lose a child, at any age. Know that you’re surrounded by our virtual hugs and are here when you feel up to coming back.

    1. Thanks, Suzanne, for your prayers and huge hug. It’s tough losing loved ones but unimaginable and unbearable when it comes to losing a child, especially, your only child but God has been our Rock through this darkest time in our lives. We are taking all the time we need to heal and with God’s help, we will heal.
