“I had a bad experience today,” Carlos told his wife, Candis.
“What happened?”
“I was in a convenience store, getting bottled water when a white woman walked up to me and told me to go back to where I came from. After I recovered from my shock, I informed her that I was born in this country and I have as much right to be here as she does. Then, I got my water and walked away.”
“Good for you.”
“They judge us and treat us like we’re criminals.”
“And we’re Americans just like them.”
