Taken for a Ride

“What a spectacular view,” Deepali remarked to Rohit as they sat perched high above the amusement park.  It was a mild summer evening and they were riding the Ferris wheel. It was her first time.  Initially, she was petrified to go on it and worried that something bad might happen but Rohit assured her that she’d be safe.  He’d make sure of it.

“Careful now,” he warned.  “Don’t lean over too far.”

Deepali smiled.  “I’ll be careful,” she promised.  “Is that the Capitol building–?” Her query turned into a bloodcurdling scream as she went hurtling over the side.
