“How long are you going to keep those walls and fences up, Carly? When are you going to let yourself love and be loved again?”
I wanted to reach up and touch his face and tell him that I was afraid of getting hurt again. I had allowed myself to love and in return all I got was heartache. I didn’t want to go through that again. Those walls and fences were my protection. I wasn’t about to tear them down. “I’m sorry, Greyson.”
“So am I.”
I watched him walk away. Was I making a terrible mistake?

Sadly, when we are hurt we tend to put up barriers. And some people never let them come down.
Happy New Year.

Yes, we do. The barriers protect us from getting hurt again but they also prevent us from experiencing life and love. And you’re right, some people keep them up permanently.
Happy New Year to you too 🙂

Yes, many people lose the chance at true love because they refuse to tear down the walls.
Thanks

That’s really sad. What’s life without love? You’re welcome.

The walls do protect us from getting hurt, but we then are hurt by the lack of relationship and loneliness. A well-written story.

That’s so true, Brenda. While the walls protect us, they prevent us from enjoying meaningful relationships and loneliness becomes our companion. Thanks 🙂

I hope she can tear down the walls in the future. Very true story, we imprison ourselves when we’re afraid to get hurt and won’t risk opening up.

You’re so right about us imprisoning ourselves. Falling in love is always a risk but it’s one worth taking.

Dear Adele,
I’m left thinking that with what she told Greyson, if he really cared he might stick around to help her tear down the walls. There’s the romantic in me talking. Giving our heart to another person is risky business…even if it’s just friendship. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Dear Rochelle,
I’m hoping that he won’t give up. And you’re right, giving one’s heart to another person is very risky and that can apply to friends too. Thank you 🙂
Shalom,
Adele

They will be there until she is ready… hopefully that day comes sooner rather than later.
